Hello everyone, I would like to use my first blog to introduce myself; my name is Darren and I am one of the new Case Workers at Running Deer School.
Joining Running Deer School
So a little about me and my past:
For the last 6 and a half years I have worked for a Community Interest Company where I taught both unemployed adults and supported them back into employment, and Post 16 (16 to 19 years old) students with Learning Difficulties and Social, Emotional Mental Health needs.
I worked with the Post 16 students across Torbay and Newton Abbot for 3 years and had the opportunity to teach them subjects covering: horticulture, basic cooking, health and safety, employability skills, communication, confidence building, functional skills English and Maths and generally independent living skills.
I was incredibly lucky to help support many students into employment, further education and to living independently.
Prior to this I worked in retail (including management) and sales and marketing.
Over the years I, like many others, have faced trials and tribulations and had some difficult times, however I look back on these times and use them as lessons to allow me to empathise with the students I work with and create a trusting and understanding relationship, something I am looking forward to bringing to my role at Running Deer.
So as I, like my fellow new starters, embark on the start of my journey with Running Deer School I want to thank the staff and, most importantly, the students for the warm welcome and I look forward to learning and growing with you.
Thank you all for reading.
