Supporting each other

One of the many things that I love about Running Deer School is the support that runs through each staff member and flows through to each other and the students.

Supporting each other

We teach our students that it is okay to make mistakes and that mistakes are there for a reason; so that we have an opportunity to learn from them. We all make mistakes even as adults, and this is still okay.

We teach our students that whatever they are feeling is okay. We all express our feelings in different ways, even as adults, and this is still okay.

All behaviour is for a reason

We at Running Deer School understand that all behaviour happens for a reason. We look deeper than the presentation of behaviour and we work together with the young people to discuss how they are feeling and how we can support them.

We understand that behaviour is simply a form of communication; a way of telling us something. We understand that behaviour is not a reflection of the person, but a reflection of how they are feeling.

We question why the behaviour is happening, what caused it, what can we do to support the students and how to prevent it happening again. Again, as always, Running Deer School staff work together with the students to find the best solution for everyone.

Emotions are complicated and difficult and can present themselves very differently from one person to the next. The important thing is to try to understand why we behave in a certain way and learn that we have the power to make our own choices.

I feel so proud to work in a school that empowers our fantastic young people to understand that they all have the capability to make their own choices. A school that allows our young people to be assured that their behaviour is always heard, and that their feelings are always supported.
