SEN Teacher Vacancy
This is a full time (1.0 FTE), term time only, position. 0.6 or 0.8 FTE would be considered for the right person.
Our SEN teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons to students on a one-to-one or very small group basis. This will include core subjects from Year 2 level to GCSE, as well as vocational qualifications and project-based learning.
Your duties will include:
- developing programmes of learning activities
- planning, preparing and researching lessons
- preparing and adapting teaching materials
- making use of special facilities and/or equipment
- teaching students on an individual or small group basis
- checking and assessing students’ work and giving feedback
- encouraging personal development
- attending meetings and reviews
- working with our SENCo to liaise with parents/carers, external agencies and a range of other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, and educational psychologists
- writing reports to parents
- planning and coordinating academic work for delivery by our case workers
- ensure that our tracking systems are kept up date so that we can monitor the progress of students
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS). This role is not suitable for newly qualified or yet to qualify applicants
- An English specialism is preferred, particularly up to GCSE level, or experience of teaching English to KS4
- At least 2 years’ experience of teaching young people with SEN, across Key Stages 2-4
- Must enjoy the outdoors and be able to cope with inclement weather
- An understanding and empathy for children with SEN
- Bags of patience and a sense of humour!
- An Enhanced DBS check and references will be undertaken for this role
- Desirable: current First Aid at Work Certificate
- Desirable: experience of delivering vocational qualifications, including ASDAN awards
As a qualified teacher, you will have experience of working with young people with SEND across the curriculum and KS2-3, particularly those with autism, mental health needs, attachment and trauma.
You will be passionate about helping young people achieve, set targets with them for their learning, be flexible but fair, and have a sense of humour. You will need to be organised, clear-sighted and able to work with students, and carers. Approachable and committed, you’ll set high expectations.
You will enjoy being outdoors and woodland environment, and in our classrooms that are based on site. You will need to be able to deal with extreme weathers, mud and rain, be comfortable working in a woodland setting. Ideally you will love dogs and horses who work within our team providing animal assisted interventions.
You will work closely with our Head of School/SENCo, Pastoral Lead and Curriculum Lead to ensure that EHCP’s, assessments and progress reviews are up to date and accurate.
All of our marking is ‘live’, so you won’t be taking books home each evening. There are also opportunities for CPD, as well as regular clinical group supervision. Above all, you’ll love seeing those in your care achieve their true potential.
Pay and conditions
- This is a 1.0 FTE post, 35 hours per week, 0900 to 1600 Monday to Friday (0.6 or 0.8 FTE would be considered for the right candidate)
- Term time only 40 weeks (including INSET)
- Pay: £26,000 pa actual (for 1.0 FTE)

At interview, you will be asked to prepare a lesson in advance, and deliver a half hour English lesson to one of our students. This will be followed by a formal interview. This interview will consist of a 45-minute question and answer session, which will be scored against a predetermined set of questions.
Subject to a current DBS check including Children’s Barred List and references, we will then make a formal offer of employment.
Once the offer of employment has been accepted, you will be invited to attend an induction day, and complete our basic training sessions including e-learning which will cover our policies, procedures, the safeguarding of children and young people, risk assessments, and a health and safety briefing.
