Curriculum

Curriculum

Running Deer’s curriculum is tailor-made to meet the specific needs of each young person we work with, helping them grow and develop.

Our core curriculum of land based studies, arts and crafts and equine studies is enriched by a bespoke education and therapeutic support package to meet the specific needs of the individual student.

At Butterdon Wood, the home of Running Deer, we have the space for young people with Special Educational Needs to express themselves without the confines of a traditional classroom environment. Nature is one of our biggest therapeutic tools and Butterdon Wood is perfect for young people to learn, develop and participate in activities, even if they do not engage with nature directly.

As a school, we provide our students with opportunities to follow a broad and balanced curriculum, to achieve formally recognised qualifications based on their needs, and to develop their social, emotional and behavioural skills, in order to transition successfully to further study or training on leaving school.
