Meet the Team

With a diverse range of skills and qualifications, each and every member of staff brings valuable experience and expertise to Running Deer. Not only do our team compliment each other fully with their individual knowledge and life experiences, our team are keen to share that knowledge with each other, our students and the community.

Nick Hurst

Head of School and SENCo, English Teacher

I have a PGCE in Secondary History and a History and Music Tech degree. I also have a Masters level credits as a Trauma Informed Practitioner and Level 3 Safeguarding. I have 15 years SEND teaching experience and have worked alongside Social Care, Health and Educational professionals.

As well as working extensively with the primary curriculum and pre curriculum areas I have taught both English and Maths to GCSE level, alongside alternative equivalents.

Martin Hibbs

School Administrator, Deputy HR Officer

I joined Running Deer as School Administrator in September 2020.

I hold the Certificate of School Business Management from the National College of Teaching and Leadership.

I am also currently the Chair of Governors for a local primary school.

Emma Craig

Therapeutic/Pastoral Lead, Art Teacher, Therapeutic Art

I have a BA (Hons) in Art and a PGCE in Art Education from Birmingham and have over 20 years teaching experiences in diverse educational settings, inspired to find ways to do things differently.

I also have a Post Grad Certificate in Creative Arts Therapies from The New School, New York which opened my mind to how the Arts can be instrumental in helping people reach their full potential.

I have a Mental Health level 2 Certificate and am a Drawing and Talking Practitioner. I am happiest found at the Art Pod facilitating our student's latest project!

Andy Nash

Curriculum Lead, Maths Teacher

My first foray into teaching was instructing people to scuba dive (in much warmer places that England!). I quickly transitioned into teaching in schools soon after that.

I have a BSc in Marine Biology and completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 2018.  I’ve worked in various settings ranging from Pupil Referral Units to mainstream, but mainly in SEN environments.

I joined Running Deer in 2021 and teach the Maths curriculum and coordinate the ASDAN curriculum.
